Letter to my 18-Year-Old Self 😄

Dear Aderimike,

I remember your 18th birthday so vividly. You were in your second year of undergrad, brimming with excitement about this monumental age while starting to question whether you were making the right choices and on the right path. Let me tell you: you are right where you need to be. You’ve done so well. You didn’t follow the crowd—you followed your dreams and interests, and I’m super proud of you!

Here are a few things you’ll soon learn:

Failure is not the end of the world.
You had your first major failure when your chemistry result wasn’t great, but trust me, there’ll be more failures, even after you’ve put in so much hard work. But here’s the thing: they’ll shape you. Remember this quote from your fave, Serena Williams: “A champion is not defined by their wins but by how they recover when they fail.” That’s the mindset you’ll need to keep moving forward.

Live a little!
I wish you’d let yourself enjoy life more. I know you’re so focused on getting the best grades (which is great), but there’s so much more to life than perfect grades. Try new things, experiment with hobbies, and allow yourself to have fun! You deserve to enjoy the journey, not just the destination.

Change is constant.
Oh, girl, you’re going to change so much that you’d hardly recognize the present you. But that’s the beauty of it. Embrace the change—it’s taking you somewhere amazing.

It’s your parents’ first rodeo at life too.
They’ve done such a great job raising you, even when they didn’t have all the answers. Give them grace—they’re learning too.

Nobody is coming to save you.
So make the best decisions with whatever situation you find yourself in. And if you make bad choices? That’s okay—you’ll bear the consequences, learn from them, and keep moving forward.

God is good—always.
Even when the challenges feel overwhelming, He’s got you. Hold on to your faith, because it’ll sustain you through it all.

True friendship is beautiful.
Stop trying to be everyone’s friend. I know you love meeting new people, but be intentional about your friendships. Quality over quantity, always.

Your belief in God, your curiosity, your bravery, and your strong sense of self will open doors you can’t even imagine right now. You’ll surprise yourself with how strong and determined you are. You’ll make mistakes, but every time, you’ll bounce back stronger.

So, hold your head high, laugh often, and don’t take life too seriously. You’re going to do incredible things—just wait and see.

With love from your older self 💕

P.S. Can you believe you moved to Canada and now you’re a content creator? Like, your face is on the internet, yapping about money! Who would’ve thought, girl?

If you could say one thing to your 18-year-old self, what would it be?
